Responsibilities When Using ATS

Student Responsibilities when using ATS

The Alternative Testing Site (ATS) is located in Center for Disability Services (Lightsey Center, 104).

The ATS follows standard procedures so students know what to expect when they arrive to take their tests. Please familiarize youself with the following information.

  • Schedule tests for the same day and at the same time that the test is given in class unless there is an academic-related scheduling conflict. Non-academic related obligations are not considered valid for scheduling conflicts. If you have such a conflict (see examples below), you are responsible for discussing this with your professor prior to scheduling your test at a different time.

    Examples:
    • If the use of extended time for an accommdated test interferes with back-to-back classes.
    • If you attempted to schedule your test five (5) business days in advance, but the ATS has no available space. In this instance, the ATS staff will contact your professor to find a reasonable alternative testing option for you.

Plan accordingly. The ATS staff will not provide excuses for missing class or work in order to complete a test.

If you are unable to take a test as scheduled due to illness or other emergency, notify the ATS staff and your professor as soon as possible. You and your professor must agree on arrangements for rescheduling your test before the ATS staff will adminsiter the test.

NOTE:  If your test is online and not proctored by ATS, the student is responsible for reminding the professor to set the test for the appropriate extended time (e.g., "Professor Smith, as per my PNL, please set my online test for 50% extended time.")

On Test Day:

  • Arrive on time. It is recommended that you arrive 5-10 minutes prior to your test beginning. This allows time for the proctor to give any instructions and to put away and personal belongings in provided cubicles. If you are late for your test, those minutes will be deducted from your allotted time. Professors will be notified.

  • Present CofC ID prior to taking your test. No tests will be administered without proper identification. NO EXCEPTIONS.

  • You will leave non-essential test items in a designated area. These items include, but are not limited to:  coat, bag, phone, smartwatch, fitness tracker; photographic/recording devices, or any other electronic devices. Posession of prohibited items or accessing unapproved resources will result in the immediate termination of the test and possible disciplinary action. The Student Code of Conduct will be followed.

  • We have cubicles for you to to store your personal belongings while you are testing. It is recommended that you limit the items you bring with you. Personal items will be returned upon completion of your test.
  • In the testing room, you will be permitted only items that your professor has designated on the testing form.

  • Calculators must be of the type permitted by the professor and may be inspected by ATS staff prior to use. Calculators with internet capability are not permitted. The ATS has a limited supply of basic calculators for student use and we recommend you bring your own.

  • You may only use notes if your professor has notified us that they are allowed. Notes will be collected, attached to your completed test, and forwarded to the professor.

  • Scratch paper will be provided by the ATS. Scratch paper will be collected, attached to your completed test, and forwarded to the professor.

  • Please bring your own writing utensils. The ATS will provided standard pencils for testing, if needed.

  • Please ensure that your personal needs are met prior to your arrival as bathroom visits will not be permitted without the express written permission of your professor.

  • Please work quietly. A distraction-reduced setting is essential for all.

  • Food and drink are prohibited in the testing rooms.

  • If you are approved access to food or drink during tests as an accommodation, you must leave those items outside of the testing room apart from your belongings in view of the proctor

  • Please refrain from wearing scented products (cologne, perfume, lotions, body spray, aftershave). Fragrances found in many of these items make those that have allergies, migraines, environmental sensitivities, and multiple chemical sensitivities sicker and unable to participate.
