Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

What is it?

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is a nationwide program designed to provide employment opportunities in the federal and private sectors for college students and recent graduates with disabilities. The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy and the U.S. Department of Defense coordinate the program. A wide variety of other agencies also participate in the consortium.

How does it work?

A WRP recruiter conducts a phone interview with students who are interested in either summer internship opportunities and/or full-time permanent positions in the federal and private sectors. Participating students will not be interviewing for a specific summer and/or full-time positions. Instead, during the interview, the student will provide the WRP recruiter with information as to what area of the federal and private sector they are interested in. After the interview, the WRP recruiter will prepare interview summaries and enter information about the students into a recruitment database. In December of that year, application packages and interview evaluation forms generated by the database are made available to potential employers in the federal and private sectors.

The Career Center has proven to be successful for many of our past participating students.

What are the benefits of participating?

  • Connecting with the Career Center staff and working on skills that will aid you in future employment opportunities.
  • Applying knowledge gained in the classroom in a professional setting.
  • Feeling confident and prepared for your transition from college to career.

Who is eligible to participate?

The WRP serves students who:

  • Have a disability (however, it is not a requirement for students to be registered with the Center for Disability Services.) AND
  • Are enrolled at College of Charleston on a substantially full-time basis (unless the severity of the disability precludes the student from taking a substantially full-time load) to seek a degree OR
  • Are enrolled at College of Charleston as a degree-seeking student taking less than a substantially full-time load in the enrollment period immediately prior to graduation OR
  • Have graduated from College of Charleston within the past year.

Participating students will be responsible for:

  • Completing the WRP application, which includes the uploading of your resume, unofficial/official transcripts, and contact information.
  • Scheduling a meeting with a Career Center staff member and SNAP Services Coordinator (Center for Disability Services) to prepare for the registration process and interview. Students will have the opportunity to receive assistance on creating or improving their resume, developing a cover letter specific to WRP, and engaging in a mock/practice interview.
